This year’s festival theme is space, which can be perceived in different artistic concepts. On the Slovenian art scene, I was attracted by three visual artists Gašper Capuder, Nina Čelhar and Tjaša Rener, whose artistic work explores the contemporary culture of living and gives different interpretations of interiors or the interiors of living spaces. The culture of living of the millennial European relates to various consumer trends and fashion trends in interior design, which are intertwined with the diversity of the geographical area of our upbringing and later home. Nina’s aesthetic minimalism of details from her home environment, Tjaša’s colourful style with a touch of southern nostalgia and the traditions of African culture, and Gašper’s interiors infused with toys and millennial pop art will take us on a search for our own home, which is all the more important for us millennials as the search for our own home is constantly moving into the realms of the unattainable.

Odprt slikarski prostor in prosojni toni, omejene barvne palete ustvarijo umirjeno, vendar izmuzljivo vzdušje, ki gledalca vodi v psihološki prostor, očiščen vseh distrakcij.
Nina Čelhar (1990) is a painter whose work is characterised by recurring motifs of contemporary architecture, minimalist interiors and everyday objects. Often idealised and simplified, her compositions delve into the meaning of architecture as a fundamental living environment; they serve as a visual discourse on the deep connection between personal space and individual identity. The open pictorial space and the translucent tones, the limited colour palettes create a calm but elusive atmosphere that leads the viewer into a psychological space cleansed of all distractions.
Rojena 1986, Slovenj Gradec (SI). Živi in dela v Akri (GH) in Ljubljani (SI).
Born in 1986, Slovenj Gradec (SI). Lives and works in Accra (GH) and Ljubljana (SI). Tjaša Rener, visual artist and researcher with a practice that expresses itself mainly in painting and screen-printing influenced by 20th century modernists, all the way to physical spaces that offer the possibility of artistic expression and international collaboration. Human relations are a central motif in her work, which deals with everyday culture from a Slovenian and Ghanaian perspective. She first encountered screen-printing during a summer residency at Sofia Art Macedonia in 2010, led by professor and artist Ines Krasić. In 2010, Rener began visiting Ghana, in particular a remote village on Lake Bosumtwi, a lake formed from an ancient meteorite crater. Since 2016, she has been researching life in Accra: a city marked by strong economic divisions. Rener has devoted her time to studying and presenting ‘systems’ of survival, which she articulates through technically complex paintings and installations. She has presented her work in numerous group and solo exhibitions, including a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koroška and Velenje Gallery in 2021, and a major solo exhibition with a residency at Gallery 1957, Ghana.
